Record results for students

BARRY pupils were celebrating after news of record A-level results.

Students at Barry Comprehensive were delighted to find that most of them had achieved the grades they needed to go off to their choice of college or university.

Ai Ting Ho, 18, of Barry Road, is heading to Cardiff to read business and finance. He said: "I've got an A in history, an A in maths and a B in economics. I'm really pleased."

His friend Gareth Ricketts, 18, will be travelling to Exeter to study accounting and finance after receiving two Bs and an A while Charlene Lee, 18, is off to Nottingham to take computer science with her A, B and C grades.

Head teacher David Swallow said: "We are delighted with this year's results. They compare with last year's outstanding percentage pass. Of note this summer is a distinct improvement in the achievement of pupils who in previous years may have found greater difficulty in achieving A-level success."

Bryn Hafren had just as good news. Mair Ebenezer, head of the Sixth Form said: "Our results are excellent. We are at least more than two percent up on grades A to E and over seven percent up on grades A to C compared to last year. We are all very pleased."
