Reunited with his beloved pet

A BARRY family has thanked the News for its help in finding their cat after it was lost by the RSPCA.

The animal charity took the cat away in June after it had broken its leg. They said they would bring it back home to Alexis Campbell, 34, and her son Mitchell, 7, of Raldon Close in six weeks' time.

Officials then admitted they had no idea where it was after they let it escape from a foster home in St Mellons.

"We expected him to come back after six weeks," said Mrs Campbell.

"My son Mitchell asked me to get the cat food in so we were ready. He was really excited, then nothing happened. He was devastated when he didn't come back on time."

Mrs Mitchell explained how the animal had been half-wild before they brought him inside their home.

"Trigger was meant to be away for six weeks. In the end it was 11 weeks. I couldn't believe it," she added.

"Trigger was next door's cat originally," she explained. "But they were away for most of the time, and by the time they moved out, he was half wild and fending for himself.

"When winter came, Trigger was looking very scrawny, so Mitchell asked if we could put some food out for him.

"He kept coming back, and even came into the house."

Mrs Campbell says the News helped the situation after beginning to investigate the problem last week.

"The News' involvement has helped the situation a lot," she said.

"They didn't know where it was on Wednesday, but by Sunday, they had found it."

A spokesman for the RSPCA admitted to the News that they still had no idea of the cat's whereabouts last Wednesday.

"Cats like to roam freely, and the cat escaped from the foster home," she said.

"As the cat doesn't know the area, it hasn't come back and we do not know where it is."

The RSPCA was yesterday unavailable to explain the situation of the cat's recovery.

"We are very sorry that this happened," she concluded.
