A SECOND Vale of Glamorgan Primary Schools' sports festival has been hailed a great success by both participants and organisers.
More than 450 youngsters, who all received a certificate, represented 18 schools, and the event, which was organised by Vale Council Dragon Sports co-ordinator Karen Davies, was held at Barry's Jenner Park Stadium.
Events enjoyed by the youngsters included 75m and 400m races, relays, turbo javelin, cricket ball throwing, shot, long jump and high jump, and there was a new event - the 75m shuttle run - for Years 3 and 4.
The top school overall was Sully, who received trophies from Vale councillor Emlyn Williams, while other age group winners were:
Year 6, boys, Sully; girls Evenlode (Penarth).
Year 5, boys (joint), Holton Road and High Street (Barry); girls, Jenner Park (Barry).
Karen commented: "The festival has been a great success and I would like to thank all the children for their enthusiastic participation.
"I would also like to thank the many volunteers from Vale primary schools and the sixth formers and teachers from Llantwit Major Comprehensive School for their assistance and hard work."
Cllr Williams said: "There was a brilliant atmosphere, with all the children trying their very best. I hope the event continues to enjoy such great success."
