Eight Legged Freaks (12)

When toxic waste finds its way to spiders, they become giant. It's then that they plan an invasion of the small, nearby town. Prodigal son Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker, lead the town's fight against the arachnids.

A 1950's B-movie has been parodied so much that it has resulted in a hilarious spoof which still finds time to add jumpy bits in classic B-movie style. It has everything a B-movie has - the parents that don't believe the little boy, the small Western town, the unlikely hero and the love story sub plot.

Director Ellory Elkayem has shown three talents here. Perfect parodying skills, smart comedy touches and effective jumpy moments. Also, to go with his talents, the talents of David Arquette are also present.

How he manages to keep a straight face in every scene is beyond belief, and while he still could have done better, he still does great. The same must go to his co-stars, Kari Wuhrer, Scarlett Johansson, Francis Bullen and a very much welcomed return to Cool Runnings star Doug E Doug.

The 1950's rubber puppets are gone and so the 21st century's toll of CGI is here, and it's better than ever! The spiders in their numbers all look realistic enough that at time you do actually believe the film makers set loose a herd of giant spiders in a sleepy town. Overall the only thing you can say about Eight Legged Freaks is that while being so dumb, it's still so smart while also being hilarious and creepy.
