Cinema Review

THE BEST advice I can really give to you on this film is, don't expect a lot. Although Men in Black II has been long anticipated and immensely hyped and marketed, if you expect too much, you will probably be crushed with the result.

Set five years after the original, Agent J is still working with the Men In Black. When the evil Serleena comes to search for a mysterious light, J must bring back his old mentor, Agent K to help him, before Serleena destroys the world. In other words, the film is pretty much the same as the first one.

Is Men In Black II a good film? As a matter of fact, it's very good film. I went to the cinema expecting a really weak sequel, but as it turns out it wasn't too bad. My low expectations helped me ignore all the noticeable flaws which a lot of people will notice. While the film sticks closely to the 'Serleena plot,' the chemistry between Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones seems to be lost.

Sticking to this plot also makes the film too short which in a way makes you feel cheated, because an extra 10 minutes of jokes would have been more than welcome. Barry Sonnenfield is a good director but why he let some of these flaws slip between his fingers is beyond belief.

To surpass the original seems like an impossible task, and he couldn't do it, but what he has delivered he is worthy enough for a pat on the back.

Entertainment lives in every scene, which is helped by Smith and Jones. Jackass' Jonny Knoxville makes a funny screen debut too.

The 'slick feel' is still present, and the special effects are excellent. It's witty and smart and entertaining all the way.
