The Barry Chamber of Trade Day is to be revived, probably in July next year. The occasion took the form of an annual outing for employees and staffs and was extremely popular with small firms.

It is hoped that Barry's first post war Shopping Week will be held from Saturday, September 27 - and thereby give a welcome fillip to the "Shop in Barry" Movement.

The monthly business meeting of the OAP No 3 (Suburb) Branch was held on Monday. Mr Wolfe, vice chairman, gave a report to the Area Committee meeting held at Gwaelod-y-Garth.

The Polytechnic of Wales have lost their battle to save 650 teacher training places at their Barry site and such training will have to end by 1981.

Overcast cold and windy conditions on the first two nights of Carnival Week kept the crowds indoors and on Tuesday only about one quarter of those who flocked to Romilly Park for last year's sports night turned out.

The first of two prizes in the new allotments competition run by the Barry Town Council went to plot holders at Palmerston Road. The winner was Mr M Wilcox, of Kenilworth Road, and the runners up were Mr C M Miller of Laura Street, and Mr R A W Harding of St Mary's Avenue.

On Thursday a cheque for £350.31 was presented to the Barry Lifeboat Committee at the Tynewydd Inn, Barry. The money had been raised by the Tynewydd regulars.
