CD review

CALLED quite simply Claire, this debut album from the Brookside actress Claire Sweeney is a real eye-opener.

While it would be very easy to judge the Liverpudlian star before even hearing her voice - dont!

She has covered some very difficult songs done originally by some very demanding artists. The fact she has had a blessing from Queen guitar-player Brian May is a commendation, and Claire's version of Too Much Love Will Kill You is very sweet.

She takes on the challenging Celine Dion score My Heart Will Go On made famous as the theme from Titanic, and does it proud. And just to show her vocal independence, she has included a canticle on the album in the shape of Scarborough Fair.

But perhaps the biggest surprise of the whole CD will be the very sexy rendition of Light My Fire. Its not Hendrix or Will Young. It is 100 percent Claire and very nice it is, too. Added to the fact that the lyrics are included, this is one album you will find easy to sing along to.

Claire shot to popularity during the weeks of Celebrity Big Brother, and with this album, the attractive brunette should leave her mark on the world as a rounded performer.
