50 YEARS AGO

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 24, 1952:

* On Sunday last, the Rifle Club of the 5th Glamorgan Battalion Home Guard, visited the Newton range for its annual full bore championship shoot.

* Cadoxton Secondary Boys' School are the winners of the Barry Secondary Schools' Cricket League for the 1952 season.

* Some of the trophies to be won at the Barry Horse and Agricultural show on Wednesday, August 6, are shown in an attractive floral display, arranged by the Parks Supt Mr H J Kruger in the windows of Messrs H R Paul and Sons Ltd.

* A pleasant afternoon was spent by members of the No 3 Suburb Branch of the Old Age Pensioners, on Monday when Mr J Wolfe organised a "Top of the Form" competition.

* The 1952 Glamorgan Instrumental Scholarship has been awarded to local girl, Miss Gloria Johns of Broad Street, Barry.

* Eric Robinson a pupil at the Barry Grammar School, has been successful in gaining one of the two Art Scholarships awarded to Grammar Schools.

25 YEARS AGO

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 21, 1977:

* More than 350 new jobs could be created in Barry later this year if confidential talks taking place between Arabian oil interests and the British Transport Docks Board are successful.

* Three local youngsters are involved in the Guinness School of Sport for Wales and South West England which takes place at the National Sports Centre in Cardiff. They are Alan and Deborah Coulthard of Colcot Road, and Michael Buffin of Clive Road.
