Cook up a win

CAN Cook, want to cook? Then look no further. Budding young Masterchefs are invited to take part in our brand new Master Chef 2002 competition, run in association with Gilby's Restaurant.

We are inviting readers, between the ages of 11 and 15, to try their hand at becoming the next Jamie Oliver.

All you have to do is write down a recipe and the method of preparing and cooking a two-course meal for two people. You can choose a starter and a main course, or a main course and a dessert.

Spend no more than £10 on your ingredients, which will be reimbursed by Gilby's. And if you're one of the lucky three finalists, be prepared to cook both courses on Monday, August 19 at the restaurant itself.

Anthony Armelin, owner of Gilby's, which is based behind the HTV studios in Wenvoe, said: "The chefs here will take a look at what's on offer and choose the three most mouth-watering suggestions.

"Then the finalists will come into my kitchen. They will each be assigned a professional chef to guide them. And then, the cook-off will begin.

"They will have roughly two-and-a-half hours to cook their meal, before the judges decide a winner based on taste and presentation."

There will be prizes for all three contestants and a trophy for the winner.

To enter please attach your entry to the coupon from this week's Barry and District News and send it to Sue Vincent-Jones at the Barry and District News, 156 Holton Road, Barry, to arrive no later than Friday, August 9.
