AROUND 100 youngsters have enjoyed a second cricket festival for girls from Vale of Glamorgan primary schools.
Hosted by Cowbridge Cricket Club, the event was organised by the Vale Sports Development Unit in partnership with the Cricket Board of Wales.
The winners were Romilly school, Barry, who, along with runners-up Y Bont Faen (Cowbridge), and other competing teams - Ysgol Sant Curig, All Saints' Church in Wales and Gladstone, from Barry, Evenlode and St Joseph's, Penarth, and St Athan - received prizes and certificates from Vale councillor Catherine Clay and Director of Cricket Development for Wales Mark Frost (who are pictured with some of the youngsters).
Cllr Clay commented: "The Cowbridge cricket and, in particular, their junior co-ordinator, Peter Hardwicke, deserve special praise for hosting such a successful event. Girls' cricket has huge potential for development and we are aiming to use this festival to establish an under-13 girls' team for the Vale."
Anyone requiring further information about girls' cricket opportunities in the Vale should contact Sports Development Manager Paul Nanji on 01446 704614.
