Parade 'chance to save the lido'

YOUNGSTERS should draw posters depicting their visions for the Knap lido and show them at this Saturday's Carnival Parade, a campaigner urges.

This is the latest idea in a campaign demanding that the Vale of Glamorgan Council makes public plans for the crumbling pool's fate.

Battling Barry teacher Gerwyn Pugh, 32, says the Carnival parade, which sets off from Weston Square at 3pm, is the ideal place for local people to get their message through.

He told the News: "People may want to follow the floats down to Romilly Park - it's a good way for them to get their message through to the council.

"Perhaps youngsters and adults could carry pictures of how they think the Knap should be and how it was."

Mr Pugh slammed the authority saying it has been "discourteous" in not answering questions about the Knap.

The Park Crescent resident said: "Perhaps anyone interested in saving the Knap pool should follow another event that relied on community spirit - the Barry Carnival to Romilly Park before councillors have their meeting to discuss the development of luxury houses on the site."

He added: "I'm sure there will be a few council members about who will listen to the locals - and a banner or two would remind them of our cause.

"It would only be a short walk to view what everyone is complaining about. I may even buy them an ice cream on the way."
