EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 17, 1952:
The 2nd Battalion of the Army Cadets, which includes Barry, Wenvoe and other parts of South Wales, is going to camp this year at Rhyl from August 10 to 24.
Owing to the head postmaster, Barry, being unable to obtain a candidate for the sub-postmastership of Llancarfan, that office was closed for an indefinite period as from Saturday.
Re-organisation and widening of the scope of the housing management committee so that it would live up to its name, is foreshadowed by a minute approved at the town council meeting on Monday.
"The electors of the Castleland Ward have put me in because they feel an injustice has been done," this was the comment of cllr Mrs Maud Mary Higgins to a Barry and District News reporter.
Barry Fire Service has been busy during the past week. On Wednesday they were called to a fire in the hut at the side of All Saints Church Hall, St Nicholas Road; on Thursday to a fire in the fish and chip range at Bindles; on Friday to a house fire at Colcot Road, and on Monday to a chimney fire at Port Road.
Barry residents will have their first opportunity next week of seeing open air ballet in the town's parks. The Donna Roma Ballet Co, which has been touring Wales and is now at Swansea, will be visiting Barry.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 14, 1977:
The Barry Amateur Artist Group held their annual exhibition recently, many members of the public turning up and purchasing pictures and greetings cards. The group, which started with five members, now has 35 and they meet every Friday under Mr Gwyn Richards.
Bryn Hafren school will be losing its first headmistress when Miss E M Smith BSc retires at the end of this school term.
The Barry firm Hamard Catering, with premises at Cardiff Road, has won a £9m contract to supply school meals to Saudi Arabia.
Members of No 3 Branch OAP were entertained by Mr Kenner, of the Trustee Savings Bank in Cardiff, who showed a sound film of scenes from around Wales.
Mr Glyn Roberts has been appointed manager of Barry social security office. He succeeds Mr Derek Clarke, who has been transferred to the department's central office at Gabalfa.
Rhoose Carnival got off to a good start on Sunday when over 500 spectators turned out to watch the It's a Knockout competition at Rhws School playing fields.
