Gladstone retain prestigious award

BARRY pupils and staff at Gladstone Primary School are celebrating after being awarded the Sportsmarc Cymru 2002 award for the 2nd year running.

Gladstone was the first school in the Vale to receive this prestigious award. (Sportsmarc Cymru is organised by the National Playing Fields Association and is awarded in recognition of the quality PE, sport and active recreation opportunities provided for pupils at Gladstone Primary School).

Since then, Gladstone has built on its successes and submitted an impressive portfolio this year, which highlighted the importance of PE at Gladstone.

One of Gladstone's many strengths is the range of after school clubs it offers to all pupils. Sports clubs include football, rugby, netball, tennis, cricket, hockey, dance and Welsh folk dancing.

Helen Alden, PE Co-ordinator said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the school. PE has always been a high priority at Gladstone and receiving the Sportsmarc Cymru 2002 rewards the efforts of the whole team - staff, parents and of course the children themselves."
