BARRY children who have waited for many years for a safe place to play are a step closer to their dream.
A project in the Cadoxton area has brought together the communities of Harvey Street, Moxon Street, Quarella Street and Main Street. And hopefully the project will be completed with the construction of a play area on wasteland.
John Viney of the Cadoxton Millennium Playground Association (CMPA) said: "The Association has been working towards the construction of the area for years. We've been organising the construction of a playground on land at the back of these four streets with a view to improving facilities for children.
"A lot of work has been done behind the scenes, approaching other organisations and charity support groups for us to reach our target of £70,000 to bring the project to completion."
The CMPA have seen many changes in people helping out but despite their many stumbling blocks their goal is still firmly in sight.
Victor Finn, resident of Harvey Street said: "We want a first-rate play and recreation area for this part of Cadoxton.
"We've had huge help from Dow Corning who gave us a £20,000 grant. Combined with a couple of smaller amounts, this has encouraged us to keep a positive outlook on the scheme."
The CMPA is holding a meeting for all local residents, grant supporters and officials from local organisations and businesses to review and discuss the progress already made.
John said: "We've invited the police, councillors, John Smith MP and Jane Hutt AM and anyone else who might be interested in knowing how it's all going so far.
"We hope to include a projection of intended moves for the near future and would welcome input from anyone present."
The meeting will be held in the annexe of Cadoxton House on Monday, July 22, at 7pm.
