TV copycat rapist is jailed

A BARRY husband who raped his wife and then asked her if she felt like EastEnders' Little Mo has been jailed.

The 29-year-old man was sentenced to three years after admitting putting his partner through a terrifying ordeal after she refused him sex.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how he attacked her in the living room of their Barry home before asking her if she felt like the abused television character.

Little Mo, one of the Slater sisters, was raped by her husband Trevor in a recent episode of the BBC programme. But she fought back and was later jailed for assaulting her violent attacker.

In the soap's plot she is now serving eight years for the attempted murder of Trevor with an iron when she snapped after years of domestic abuse.

But in the case of the Barry man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, he had complained that he was not being shown enough attention by his 28-year-old wife, who was suffering from post-natal depression.

He then ordered her to strip before staring at her in "an evil way" as he raped her in their living room.

Prosecutor Susan Ferrier said: "He told her it was her fault and started asking her about the EastEnders character.

He said to his wife: "Does it make you feel like Little Mo of EastEnders?"

"She replied: 'No, because at least Trevor was nice to her afterwards. You were nasty and still shouting at me'."

Miss Ferrier said the couple's marriage had hit the rocks after she suffered from post-natal depression following the birth of their daughter.

She said: "He was not able to see this as a medical problem. He saw it as rejection. "He kept on to her that she was not showing enough affection to him."

The wife, went to police to report her husband after the sex ordeal at their marital home in Barry.

Andrew Taylor, defending, said: "He maintains he still loves his wife. He is very sorry for the hurt and torture he put her through.

"He has lost contact with his child and that is punishment."

The husband was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
