Dumped car is a danger to kids

A BARRY woman lives in fear of seeing a young child badly hurt by a dumped car left for over half a year.

Gloria Ludvigson of Osprey Court has been complaining to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Newydd Housing since just after Christmas about a car abandoned outside her window.

But she says despite repeated phone calls, she is still no closer to having the car taken away.

Apart from the fact it is an ugly eye-sore, the 70-year-old pensioner is terrified local children can't see the danger and are treating the car as a toy.

She told the News: "My heart is in my mouth every time I see kids playing around it. It's in a terrible state. Someone's jacked it up and stolen a wheel, leaving it balanced on a flimsy bit of metal. I tell children not to go near it when I can, but I can't watch out all the time."

According to Gloria there was hope last month when a sticker was put on the car, but they were dashed when nothing happened. Gloria said: "The date for the car to be taken away was May 3, but it's still there now."

She added: "I talked with the maintenance man in Newydd, and he said to get in touch with the council. So I did and then they gave me a number to call in Cardiff. When I called that number, I was told my message would be passed on. But I think they're all passing the buck."

A spokesman for the Vale of Glamorgan council said: "The new scheme to rid the streets of abandoned cars is taking off.

"Our officer Denise White has a full timetable but is getting to calls as soon as she can."
