On the road to better highways

SOME of Barry's busiest - and worst - roads are set for a complete makeover as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council's £700,000 maintenance programme.

The authority has earmarked 23 roads across the Vale for new asphalt surfacing.

Roads undergoing carriageway improvements in Barry are Victoria Park Road, Dovedale Street, Chilcote Street, Davis Street, Dock View Road, Commercial Street, Cornwall Road, Lydstep Road, Coleridge Crescent, Cwm Barry Way, Millwood Rise, Hawthorn Rise and Romilly Park Road.

In Dinas Powys, Brookside and Britway Road will be worked on, while in Wenvoe, Old Port Road will be targeted.

Milburn Close, Channel Close, Wesley Avenue and Lon Cefn Mably in Rhoose will be resurfaced, while Cowbridge Road in Llantwit Major, St Athan Road in Cowbridge and Hensol Road in Hensol will also be improved.

Council leader Cllr Jeffrey James, who launched the programme with cabinet member (visible services) Cllr Gerald Fletcher and operational manager (highway maintenance) Keith Jones, said: "The council has committed extra cash to improving the road network in the area."
