Jubilee weekend was one big party

BARRY was ablaze with red, white and blue last weekend, as thousands of locals celebrated the Golden Jubilee in style.

Residents threw street parties, shops and offices were dressed up to the nines, schools treated the kids to special assemblies.

Youth clubs laid on discos, community groups held exhibitions, residential homes had tea dances and nearly everyone raised a glass to the Queen.

From tiny tots to senior citizens, many took advantage of the excuse for four days of partying, right across the town and beyond.

Hannah Street residents were just one set of locals who partied the weekend away, ending with a big Jubilee bash on Monday.

One local told the News: "It was amazing to see the community spirit really come out in force. Everyone was singing, dancing and generally having a great time."

He added: "I wouldn't call myself a Royalist but I really enjoyed celebrating the Queen's Jubilee and making the 50-year celebration an event to remember.

"We even managed to catch some of the events in London on television and we could see we were not the only ones having a great time. It's great to see the whole country come together.
