Rumours still rife about hospital site

HOLLYWOOD has come to Sully Hospital... and if you believe the rumours - so have asylum seekers.

The area is rife with gossip this week, some people suggesting asylum seekers are moving in, some saying the place is being refurbished.

One thing for certain is that top American actor Ryan Phillippe is filming his latest movie there, believed to be Light in the Sky.

Under top security, the 27-year-old actor is starring in the World War II film in which two soldiers fight the Germans with the help of a Bavarian couple.

A source said: "As far as I know, Ryan's filming at Sully Hospital and is staying in Cardiff. I've heard there might be some other famous actors in the area at the moment too, though I'm not sure who."

But against all the glitter of a Hollywood set, worrying rumours are still flying about Home Office plans to use the site to house 750 asylum seekers.

One Penarth resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I've heard a lot of beds have been relocated to Sully Hospital from Llandough Hospital, so I don't know whether that means anything.

"I've also heard there are gangs of people working on Sully Hospital now. I've had a couple of people who are working there asking me where there's bed and breakfast in the area."

A spokesman for the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, which owns the hospital: "Llandough's being equipped with new beds so that could well be why beds have been moved. There's no question of beds being moved in because we're putting patients or immigrants in.

"Sully Hospital has been used for filming, and whenever that happens the place has been decorated for the purpose. After filming, the place has to be put back how it was. That could be why people are working on it."
