Language

AT last some common sense! I refer to M Lacombe's letter (published May 9).

I think Mr Lacombe is right when he says that the Welsh language holds Wales back.

We should be teaching our children a high standard of maths English and science and languages that will help them in the whole world of work. I too, shudder to think what the true cost of bilingualism really is - does anyone know?

The English don't speak Latin anymore or even olde English, and the Scots are a proud people without speaking Gaelic, and you don't hear English people complaining about the Italians, Danish or French invading them (and Wales). In fact, the Romans brought some very civilised benefits to the whole of the British Isles and their roads were as good as the Vale Council's are now!

I don't want to live in the past, I don't want the Welsh language, and the idea of independence is nonsense. Let's all move on, now.
