EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 15, 1952:

In celebration of Mr Len Heffernan's success in the Dock Ward election, a Victory Social was held at St Baruch's, Barry Island, on Friday.

Glamorgan's own Fighter Control Unit No 3614 leaves for Germany for the Annual Training this year, which is in the nature of a big operation, but for our local volunteers is just another task to get to grips with.

On Saturday, May 24, Mr A B Oldfield-Davies, BBC controller, Wales, will be speaking at Barry on "The place and the future of Television in Wales" at a meeting of the Honourable Society of Cymrodorian.

Speaking after he had formally opened the new pavilion of the Barry Athletic Bowls Club, on Tuesday, the Earl of Plymouth revealed that the Plymouth Estate interests at Barry Island were to be sold by auction to meet death duties.

Mr Ivor Jones, youngest son of Mrs B Jones, and the late Mr A Jones, Graving Dock Street, who recently emigrated to New Zealand, has found a situation in the Department of International Affairs, Wellington.

Members of the Cadoxton Women's Branch of the Barry Conservative and Unionist Association had a happy time at their Primrose dinner. Entertainment by Mrs James and Mrs Slee contributed to the evening's enjoyment.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 12, 1977:

It proved to be third time lucky for 23-year-old Gaynor Cook of Castle Street, Barry, when she was chosen as this year's Barry Carnival Queen.

The blood donation session at Barry on April 19 proved to be very successful, with a total of 140 attending and 128 donations being received.

Mr Ceri Evans has retired as a sales representative for Meggitt & Price, the Barry timber importers (part of the Powell Dyffryn Group), after being with the company for 42 years.

At a packed May Ball in the Rhoose Community Hall on Saturday, the new Carnival Queen was chosen. She is 19-year-old Miss Lorraine Martin, of Porthkerry Road.

After organising the reunion dinners of the Romilly Old Boys' Association for the last 43 years, Mr Arthur Morgan of College Road, Barry, has decided to call it a day.

The Jubilee Singers, formerly the Isabel Davies Singers, gave a concert at Cartref Porthceri, the home for the elderly. Soloists were Syd Hudd, Ivor Arnold, Tom Squires, Bryn Harries and Frank Thompson.
