I VERY much enjoyed Tom Clements letter (Barry and District News, April 11) regarding the Welsh name given to a Barry Island development.
Like the vast majority of Welsh people I dont speak Welsh, but was lucky enough to be taught to read and write instead.
But I wonder if people realise the tens of millions of pounds we in Wales waste on this bilingual nonsense every year.
We have to pay twice for metal road signs, official notices, TV, driving licence forms and even utility bills.
At the same time we waste valuable education time on stuffing a worthless, long dead language down the throats of children who dont want to learn it.
I would love Tom Clemmet to write to the Barry and District News with the English translations to all the Welsh street names we have as I am sure the people living in them would be both horrified and embarrassed at what they would discover.
I am also deeply saddened that so many Welsh people have such a chip on their shoulder, and are so anti-English without even knowing why.
Our attitudes, lack of self-confidence, and our apathy will always hold Wales back from the rest of the UK, and that delights the nationalists.
Grow up Wales, and get a life!
