CAN I start by saying lets applaud Ian Botham for his marathon walk across Wales and for all the money he has raised for the Noahs Ark Appeal, but can I ask Who chose the route through Barry? on Saturday morning.
I must say I was very surprised to find that Mr Botham did not walk through the pedestrianised area but instead went along Wyndham Street into Court Road and then down Western Hill.
Surely at 10am on a Saturday when early morning shoppers would have been out and about it would have been better to come straight up Holton Road, through the pedestrianised area and then down over Weston Hill.
The area of road between St Marys Church and the multi-storey car park was closed at 9am to traffic any way, for a military march at 11.30am, so surely logic would say utilise the two policemen standing by the multi-storey car park and bring Mr Botham and his band of walkers this way.
I am positive the residents of Wyndham Street dug deep into their pockets, but I am sure there would have been far more people in Holton Roads pedestrianised area who would have given just as generously as there are shops in this area.
I also feel that the article in last weeks Barry and District did not give a full and accurate report on the proposed route through Barry on Saturday morning.
How many more people of Barry were under the same impression as me?
Also, when Mr Botham reached Penarth, I am sure he would have walked through Penarth town centre, so why not Barrys town centre.
Anyway, if anyone can shed any light on who chose the route through Barry and the logic behind it I would be glad to hear their views.
