Disillusioned

WHEN reading various articles in publication of late boasting of all the improvements made in Barry, one can but smile when recalling amenities at the Knap 50 years ago.

We had one of the best open air lidos in Wales and a very popular ballroom, restaurant and ice cream parlour run by Bindles, used by visitors and firms celebrations from far and wide.

There were also excellent toilet facilities, a very attractive lake and gardens.

On Barry Island we had pleasant walks on and around Nells Point which boasted a small golf course.

Now, since Butlins departed, these facilities have been lost to the public. The obsolete Butlins buildings could surely be put to good use, especially the two swimming pools which appear to be derelict.

In central Barry, the old town hall has been deteriorating now for 30 years and promises made regarding its future never seem to come to fruition.

Regardless of which political party is in power in Barry, very few improvements planned appear to reach maturity. Disillusioned Octogenarian.
