EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 17, 1952:
* The first Bank Holiday of the year did not treat Barry too kindly. It opened on a bright note with glorious sunshine on Good Friday, and ended on Monday with continuous rain until late afternoon.
* The children of the Witchell have presented several successful musical shows of a high standard and their presentation of "South Carolina" at the Witchell Hall, on Friday last, was no exception.
* The choir of Holton Road Baptist Church gave a sacred concert followed by a supper on Good Friday.
* Nearly 300 young people danced to the music of Bert Miller and his orchestra at the Young Conservatives Dance, held at Bindles, on Tuesday, of last week.
* Figures issued by the East Wales District Committee of the Welsh Board for Industry show a fall in unemployment of 1,191 to 15,953 during the month of February.
* At Holton Road Baptist Church on Sunday evening a memorial plaque to the honour of the former ministers of the church was unveiled by Mr J Williams, elder and senior male member of the church. The plaque was dedicated by Reverend C E Pugh, of Newport.

EXTRACTS from the Barry District News of April 14, 1977:
* In a week when Princess Anne has figured so prominently in the news, it is appropriate that a young man named Mark Phillips should be among the prizewinners in the 1977 Barry & District Schools Art Competition, organised by the Barry Round Table.
* Barry-born Graham Morgan, managing director of The Wrigley Company Ltd, based at Plymouth, has been elected vice-president of the parent company, Wm Wrigley Jr company, of Chicago.
* Barry yachting enthusiast Mr Bernard Watkins of Jenkin Street, says he feels lucky to be alive after an explosion and fire on a 26-foot cutter in the Bristol Channel in which he suffered slight burns to the face and head.
* Vandals completely wrecked a Barry engineering and paint spraying works (Barry Spraying and Engineering Co Ltd) on Tuesday night in what was described as an "orgy" of destruction.
* More than £375 was raised by collectors on Saturday week towards the Urdd National Eisteddfod being held at Barry in June.
* At the monthly meeting of the Women's Gas Federation in the Memorial Hall Annexe on Tuesday week, Mrs Phillips, of Barry, demonstrated the art of soft toy making, with the emphasis on making them safe for children.
