Thanks, team!

COLCOT Community Project members have held a special barbecue to say a huge 'thanks' to Prince's Trust volunteers.

Following their hard work helping to revamp a small patch of ground and design a children's play area, the project members threw a party to show the eight volunteers how much they appreciated their efforts.

The barbecue started at noon and went on to 3pm last Friday, when the garden was officially opened to the children for the first time.

Rhian Robson from the project said: "The workers turned up two weeks ago and they have all put in so much labour. It's been great. Before they came, we had a small patch of land that was going to waste.

"They brought all their own materials and made a rockery, sand pit and painted the fence in lovely bright colours.

"This barbecue was just to say thanks for all their help. It's made a huge difference. We now have a safe area for the children to play out in the summer."

She added: "The project was recommended for the work by a young member of the community working with the Youth Offending Team.

"He identified it as an area that would most benefit from putting something back into the community. We were really pleased that we were thought of."

The Colcot Community Project is based in the Old Police House, Winston Road. Offering educational and recreational courses to parents and children, the project provides vital family support to residents in the surrounding area.

Part-funded by the Community Fund, a patio was built by the Sure Start Programme in 2001. This contribution from the Prince's Trust volunteers has completed the safe environment needed for the children who use the facilities.
