Good idea

Referring to last week's article on the Knap lido.

The pool was not fully used before it was closed, and, with holidays abroad and heated pools, it is not going to be a viable concern again.

But it could be used in many ways: an extension to the lake and the wildlife there; used for water sports - canoeing, surfing, pedalos, etc; used as an open air attraction.

Drain the pool, line the sides, build covered walkways/parades for families to sit under; build these in a wide arc (or two) to face south and midday sun; build toilets (and open them) on the south side, together with a basic cafe or similar amenity; tidy up the grass surround and make it attractive; brick-off the two concrete blocks at the east end. Improve the paddling pool.

Have entrance from the lake end only - make a minimum charge - no one appreciates anything that is free - and perhaps make something of the concrete area between the lake and the pool.

Install only small basic equipment, if any, and allow children to make their own play; small trains, buses, perhaps slides, etc, but no skateboarding or the like, as that is already offered.

The Vale Council has a planning department and a planning committee, so there is no need to spend thousands on a Disneyland-type of consultation. And please, no more housing.

As far as I am aware, the Vale has not organised anything for the Golden Jubilee, how about a Golden Theme for this area... this year?

I do not mention parking - there is no scope for this, I fear, but then, feet were made before cars.
