Tributes paid to Queen Mother

TRIBUTES for the Queen Mother have been pouring into the Barry and District News' official website, www.thisisbarry.co.uk

Thoughts and prayers from as far away as Canada, The Netherlands, and even Egypt have been recorded on our website through an on-line condolence book.

The Queen Mother died peacefully in her sleep last Saturday, March 30, at Royal Lodge, her Windsor Residence, with the Queen at her bedside.

Raymond and Margaret Stanfield and family of Ottawa, Canada said: "With deepest sympathy to the memory of a gracious and lovely Lady who will be greatly missed." Very similar sentiments were recorded by surfers in The Netherlands.

Nick H Proper of Schoonhoven said: "A great loss, not only for Britain."

From Cairo, Egypt, Amira wrote: "My condolences to the Royal Family of the Queen Mother. We all loved you very much."

Closer to home, Marlene and Gordon Porter of Barwick, Stockton on Tees added: "This wonderful lady will be greatly missed by us all. Our deepest sympathy."

Many people have very fond and personal memories to share with fellow browsers. Lorna Smith signed on to say: "For 12 years, my mother has sent the Queen Mother a birthday card and received a kind acknowledgement. Even very ill in hospital she was most insistent that the bereaved family should know our thoughts and prayers are with them."
