I HAVE received my Council Tax Demand for 2002/3 and wonder what extra benefits we are to receive for this latest increase.
It seems that the only people who will receive any benefit are councillors and their overpaid leaders. Have the council and its services improved since they have been receiving payment? I, like many others, think not.
If a referendum on councillors being paid a salary could be held, how many electors would vote for them to be paid, let alone the proposed latest increase?
I would not take bets on the result.
Regarding the name given to the new development at Barry Island "Pioden For," surely this means Magpie of the Sea not Oyster Catcher.
This confusion over place names could be obviated if the council applied the policy set out by Welsh Language Board, ie: "That all public notices issues by local authorities must be Bi-lingual."
Perhaps the council are afraid that if a translation is given, only the English version will be used.
