A BARRY driver is calling for locals to join together and demand action over untaxed cars.
Brian Britton, 59, of Digby Street, is so angry with the number of abandoned vehicles left in residential streets that he wants action - now.
He told the News: "We are meant to have resident permit-holder parking only here. But for the last six months, two cars have been stationed in the street without tax and without being dealt with. It's causing major parking problems"
According to Brian, the police and traffic wardens have acknowledged his complaints and put notices on the cars. But he claims this does no good.
"Whether it's kids or the owners of the cars, the notices don't stay on long. Then it's back to square one," he said.
"Advertising campaigns show untaxed cars being crushed. Perhaps this should happen more to show they mean business."
A spokesman for the DVLA said: "It is against the law to use or keep an unlicensed vehicle on a public road.
"As well as police or traffic wardens, members of the public can also report vehicles they believe to be unlicensed to the nearest DVLA Local Office.
"As many details about the location of the vehicle, registration number, make, model and name of the owner if known should be given.
"An inquiry officer will need to actually spot the vehicle on the public road and make a formal statement to be used as evidence if it goes to court.
"It may seem as if nothing is being done, but it is a time-consuming process. When the evaders are caught, action is taken. Last year, DVLA took successful enforcement action against 727,000 offenders, with some £85 million recovered in fines, penalties and re-licensing revenue."
For more information, telephone the DVLA Local Office on 029 2075 3355.
