Mr HM Hicks, Barry Road, Barry, has been appointed the new Conservative agent in the Barry constituency, in succession to Kenneth M Watkins.
At the recent examinations of the Royal Associated Board of Music, Pat Shelley was successful in her Grade I examination.
The annual dance organised by Turners Asbestos Cement Co Ltd, Rhoose, was held at Bindles, Cold Knap, on Friday, and was a happy and successful event.
Pupils of Mr Billy Olliff again upheld the school's reputation for 100 percent passes in the Medal Test at Cardiff on March 30.
In the list of St John promotions, given Royal sanction and published this week, is the name of Mr Albert E Williams, 51 Broad Street, Barry, who was promoted to officer.

One of Wales' oldest family run removal businesses has handed over the reigns to a modern fleet operator at Barry. Arthur Gay, who managed A J Gay & Sons, Holton Road has retired and the firm's interests have passed to W F Allen Transport.
Over 60 employees of the National Bus Company with service ranging from 25 to 50 years received presentations at the joint annual dinner at the Western Welsh, Red and White and Jones bus service at the Connaught Rooms, Cardiff recently.
The Community Hall in Rhoose was packed on Thursday week for the fashion show organised by the Rhoose Jazz Band committee. It was presented by "Yvonne" of Kid's Gear, for the benefit of Cymraeg Dragoons.
Although the new season is not long under way, the Colcot Crusaders junior band's drum major, Caroline Gardener, has already won two trophies.
South Glamorgan County councillor Mrs Joy Davies was guest speaker at Friday's meeting of St Baruch's Ladies Group.
A former Barry schoolboy athlete, now a well-known table tennis player, is the managing director of a new non-ferrous metals firm which began operations at Barry Docks on Monday. He is 40-year-old Arthur David of Colcot Road, Barry.
