ONCE AGAIN the students from the YMCA Kickboxing Club have done their instructors proud.
They returned from the Welsh Korean Kickboxing Championships with a clutch of first, second and third place trophies.
These students are a credit to their instructors and parents.
Fighter of the day was young Thomas Jones who attends Holton Road Primary School.
Thomas outshone all competitors to take first place in the semi contact category beating Karl Copp (in a nail biting final) into second place.
The final of the light contact was again as exciting as the semi contact, but unfortunately Thomas lost the bout, taking second place in a very close decision.
Thomas is now representing Wales in the forthcoming World Championships.
Christopher Page, aged 15, who attends St Richard Gwyn Comprehensive was also outstanding, in his very first tournament and took first place in the semi contact category.
Again a very exciting category where Pagey as he is known by his friends, fought his way through to the final.
Natasha Foscolo, aged 16, who attends Barry College, was also outstanding and fought her way through the ladies light contact category, taking first place.
Natasha is representing Wales in the forthcoming World Championships.
Jade Ellett, aged eight, who attends Holton Road Primary School fought her way to the final and took second place in the light contact.
Tara Bullock aged 14 who attends Bryn Hafren Comprehensive, was unfortunately, beaten into third place after an outstanding performance in her first fight where she took first place.
But the final was very exciting, but Tara was overpowered by a very strong older boy competitor.
She was outstanding in the light contact category where she was robbed of first place. Tara is representing Wales in the forthcoming World Championships.
Sam Remnant who attends Holton Road Primary School, fought well in the light contact category and took third place.
Jake Remnant who attends Holton Road Primary School, also fought superbly in the light contact category and took third place.
Luke Wagstaff who attends Holton Road Primary School, also fought brilliantly in the light contact category to take third place.
The following fighters who performed an excellent display of martial arts fought extremely well and deserved a place in the final and they were: Ieuan Richmond and Sonny Richardson (who are representing Wales in the forthcoming World Championships) Lewis Richmond, Kurtis Ellis, Sonny Richardson, Gareth Davies and Rhys McCarthy. Better luck next time boys.
Lauren Allen unfortunately, had to leave before her category.
