Bus hope from Jubilee book

A BARRY School's pupils could find themselves on trips in a brand-new minibus by June thanks to the Queen.

Jenner Park Primary are hoping to cash in on the Jubilee celebrations in a bid to boost funds.

This week, staff and pupils have launched a innovative fund-raising scheme they hope will both provide the bus they need and help youngsters remember the anniversary of the Coronation.

They have decided to produce a book called Jubilee History which will feature memories of former pupils, details of Coronation celebrations and other items of nostalgia.

Now the Hannah Street school is calling on past students still in the neighbourhood and ex-teachers to come forward with their memories. Photographs would also be "very welcome".

Acting head teacher Mrs Ros Holmes said she was looking forward to seeing the finished product.

She told the News: "This is a chance for all past and present pupils, staff and friends of the school to help dig up many happy and fond memories of the school and share them all in a very worthwhile cause.

"The book is one of the many ideas that have been put forward in a bid to help raise funds for the essential bus."

Dilys Colbourne, head of the school governors added: "The school bus is desperately needed by Jenner Park to help children get out and about as part of their curriculum. Any money raised would be gratefully appreciated."

Complete copies of the Jubilee book should be ready by early September. Anyone who would like to order a copy or is interested in assisting in the book's production should telephone Mrs Holmes at Jenner Park on Barry (01446) 735587.

Don't forget the Barry and District News is running its very own Jubilee column featuring memories, photographs and nostalgic pieces connected with the Queen's Coronation.
