THE BARRY Netball Club is celebrating the selection of three players to Welsh squads for the European Championships in Belfast this month.
Sarah Johnson and Ellie Carey (Wales under-19s) and Laura Davies (under 17s) currently represent the Barry A side who are chasing honours in Division A of the Cardiff League.
Barry are just three points behind current leaders Cardiff University, who they recently beat in a very close and exciting match.
A club spokeswoman said: "Week in, week out, these three players have demonstrated their outstanding skills, along with gritty determination and dedication to tough training schedules. They are an inspiration to the rest of the team and, indeed, the club as a whole."
Barry B and C sides are also playing well, despite suffering recent unexpected defeats, and the former are fifth in their division, having only just been promoted.
Ever improving Barry C lie third in their division and have a number of either very young or inexperienced players who are making rapid progress.
The team as a whole looks very promising, and Sophie Palmer has won a place in the county under-16 squad.
Sophie's selection takes the club's tally of county players to 12.
Barry "Nettle" is definitely on the up and is working with the Vale of Glamorgan Council Sports Development Unit to improve its junior section.
Further information on the club can be obtained from Jackie Carey on 01446 720909 or those interested can turn up on a Monday between 9pm and 10pm at the new hall at Colcot Sports Centre. Players of all abilities are welcome.
Further information on sports development initiatives can be obtained from Paul Nanji on 01446 704614.
