WITH reference to the letter (Barry & District News, February 7) regarding Windsor Road Church and Porthkerry Road Methodist Church and the likelihood that they will be demolished in favour of a new church on the Waterfront.
I am writing to convey my utter dismay at the prospect.
Having made some enquiries I understand that Windsor Road Church may have subsidence which would take a considerable amount of money to repair.
Knowing the cost of new buildings, surely the renovation of Windsor Road would be a fraction of the cost of a new building.
There must be so many of your readers who were married in Windsor Road or have connections with the church who would be devastated to learn that this beautiful church building is likely to be completely destroyed.
Please remember the beautiful pillars, the awe-inspiring stained glass windows, the wonderful wood features, to say nothing of the superb organ.
How can we as citizens of this town allow such a beautiful building to be destroyed in favour of a modern erection on the Waterfront.
Does history mean nothing to the people of Barry?
I don't think so.
All the couples who were married in this church, please speak up now before it is too late, and save this wonderful church building for future generations.
