Opposition

REGARDING the proposed plan to dump hundreds of so-called "asylum seekers" at Sully Hospital. I would like to point out a few facts.

Point one - the reason the Government is dispersing them across the country is that everywhere they have been placed there has been resentment and violence from local communities.

Point two - As 80 percent of "asylum seekers" waiting at Dover are reportedly from Afghanistan, and there is no way of establishing if any of them are followers of Bin Laden, is it really a good idea to let them move to a site which is only a few hundred yards from a major chemical plant and also very near the National Assembly?

Point three - People have paid a lot of money for their houses in Sully and some parts of Barry. Who will want to buy these houses when the area becomes a dumping ground for undesirables and/or terrorists? The effect on property prices will be a major cause of resentment.

All in all, this idea is badly thought out and not in the interests of local people. The fact that thousands of people have signed petitions opposing this scheme should send a message to the government that there is no room here for these people.

I find it amazing that our government can always find money to help foreigners but never come up with the cash to help its own people. Let's have a children's hospital at Sully, not a hostel for economic migrants.
