Sixth formers sponsor match ball

BARRY Comprehensive School Sixth Formers sprang into action on hearing Barry Town's appeal for help in funding their youth development programme for nine to 16-year-olds in the Vale of Glamorgan.

They set up various fundraising events including "Town Aid" on the school's radio station. As a result they raised enough money to be the match ball sponsors for Barry Town's Welsh Cup match against Caersws.

The fund raising was led by Ashley Cox and he and two fellow students attended the match to present the club with a cheque.

Barry Town's Chief Executive, Kevin Green was delighted and praised the students' efforts.

"Their response to our appeal has been fantastic. It also reinforces what I said, that if every company in the area did what Ashley and his fellow students have done, we would not have a problem.

"The practical help they have given has not only helped us, but as the future generation of Barry citizens, it demonstrates that the club and the community will be in good hands."

The students have set up their own web site, at www.barrytown.4t.com
