Council worker's model behaviour

A BARRY man has stripped to the bare essentials to raise cash for worthwhile causes.

Matthew Haffan, 24, of Sherbourne Close joined colleagues in Cardiff City Council to pose for a saucy calendar.

The shy joinery worker was persuaded to show all when he was told the money raised would help boost funds for cancer and meningitis research. He told the News: "At first I didn't think I could do it. But my mum and girlfriend both said it would be a laugh so I went ahead."

Matthew and nine other men turned up at a Cardiff photography studio on chilly Saturday, October 27.

He said: "We were all a bit embarrassed, but we were in the same boat, and just got on with it. It was really good fun actually." The idea came fellow employee Jackie Clarke.

She said: "We went for a girl's night out, and discussed how there wasn't any talent in the council. I said it would be great if we could come up with a plan to get them naked and see what they're made of. It went from there." Jackie got the go-ahead from her Operational Manager, and advertised for models.

Twelve men put their names forward, but on the day only ten turned up. Matthew added: "We've got single shots for ten months. In December and June we split into two groups."

The money raised from the calendars will go to two local charities. One is the Keelan Christopher King Meningitis Appeal Fund, and the other is the Christian Lewis Children's Cancer Care fund, based in Cardiff Bay.

The calendars cost £5 each, and as the total cost of the printing was found by sponsorship, the whole amount will go to the charities. To get your copy just telephone 029 2036 5701.
