A BARRY woman has been rewarded for her long-standing dedication to the Prince's Trust.
Volunteer Julie Harrison was presented with a prestigious certificate in December 2001 to say thanks for 'five years of selfless work'.
Although the 38-year-old holds down a busy position in the Child Support Agency, she gives up two weeks every summer to camp with a group of children who would not normally have the opportunity to go on holiday.
Julie told the News: "We go to Pendine Sands. There are four cabins, each sleep 12 children and the cabin leader. I'm normally in charge of the older girls."
There are organised activities, like abseiling and archery as well as days out.
She added: "When the young people first arrive, they are so shy. We build up their confidence and give them a sense of achievement. They all work towards a concert at the end of the week. You see them come out of their shell. It's great knowing you've made a difference."
Modest Julie, who lives in the west end of the town, is keen to play down her involvement but thanks her boss, Ken Morgan, for his support. She said: "Ken is great. I'm given special leave, and I've even had donations from colleagues."
Julie first got involved in the Princes Trust after she went on a team-building exercise with the Benefits Agency.
She then volunteered to help a group of disabled children and was hooked.
