Senior Grade promotions at the Barry YMCA

ON DECEMBER 9, the UTAW (United Tae Kwon Do Association of Wales) held its black belt gradings at the Moose Hall, Gorseinon, Swansea.

Club instructor Colin Palfrey, assistant instructor Paul Nurse and cadet black belt Peter Fordham, were the representatives of the Barry YMCA Tae Kwon Do Club. The grading consisted of kata (patterns) basic movement, self defence, fitness work, set sparring, free sparring, theory, stick pattern and breaking.

After successfully completing all requirements laid down by the United Tae Kwon Do Association of Wales, ten-year-old Peter Fordham a pupil at Cadoxton Junior School was promoted from cadet black belt to black belt first degree.

Assistant instructor Paul Nurse was promoted from first kup to first degree black belt. Club instructor Colin Palfrey was promoted from first degree black belt to second degree black belt.

Club instructor Colin Palfrey said the year ahead looks very bright already with 14 students selected for the British team which travels to Denmark late in 2002 and five students who started their black belt year on January 3, when they went back in training.
