New facility for football club

A NEW sports clinic that has opened in Barry Town Football Club looks set to change the lives of people with injuries all through the Vale of Glamorgan.

Anne-Marie Brookes, the new physiotherapist is now on hand to look after the aching bones and strained ligaments of anyone who needs her.

Anne-Marie, 26, got her degree from Leeds University, and has a massive base of experience. She told the News: "I've been working for Barry Town part time since August, but that was just for the treatment of the team players. In the last two months I've gone full time and opened the doors to the public."

Having worked for the NHS for the last five years, Anne-Marie has seen a fair amount of injuries. She came to Barry Town from the Stoke Mandeville spinal injuries unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

But the job she taken on is just as much of a challenge. She said: "I think the players like the woman's touch. As far as I know, I'm the only female physiotherapist in the Welsh League. But I help rehabilitate them as well. I have a fitness background, so it's a great all round job for me."

Anne-Marie works with the two team doctors, and is on the side of the pitch both at home and away.

If anyone needs Anne-Marie's help, she is available most afternoons after 1pm and most evenings. She can also make weekend appointments. She said: "If there is a problem I need to query, the doctors and I have a great relationship. I can ask their advice.

"Plus, I have contacts in other areas of medicine, so if there's someone who can help more than me, I can recommend people."
