BARRY 2, CWMBRAN 1
KENNY BROWN highlighted in his Boxing Day programme notes that Barry's last home match was below key!
This game was really more of the same as Barry struggled to dominate the 'Crows' with another sub-standard performance. "
No spark, no individuality," quoted Kenny. It seems there is a general lack of self-belief in the players! They have the ability, but for some reason they don't believe it! This is not the stuff champions are made of.
It is absolutely crucial that Barry win the league and get back into Europe. This side can win the league, they have the equipment, save one player, that is an inspirational midfield dynamo that can trigger things off.
Someone who can shout and encourage, someone with real character.
Jamie Moralee unfortunately had an off game and Jon French is merely a shadow of the player he once was. Gary Lloyd messed up a penalty. These players are not being singled out but they are key players and if they are off form the team suffers.
Cwmbran are a pretty negative side, tending to defend in numbers whilst breaking quickly at every opportunity. Pat O'Hagan's good clearance let in Moralee early, but his first time shot was agonizingly just past the post. It took a bit of magic from Mattie Davies to give Barry a 1-0 lead on 30 minutes, scoring from the acutist of angles.
The second half had barely began when the Crows were reduced to 10 men.
Craig Hughes missed a glorious chance to equalise for the Crows, whilst Moralee headed against the post for Barry.
On the hour the Crows were awarded a penalty and Wright levelled the scores but with 15 minutes remaining Barry grabbed their second after Moralee had hit the post, Davies hit home the rebound.
Barry 7, Oswestry Town 1
Oswestry keeper Michael Barton stood in the way of Barry getting double figures on Saturday.
At 4-0 up and the half-time whistle imminent, Barton made two stunning saves.
Barry captain French was more like the player we know he can be, weighing in with his first goal for 21/2 months. Jamie Moralee was back on top form with four goals and Lee Phillips weighed in with the 7th.
Jon French opened Barry's account from the penalty spot. Moralee made it 2-0 on 20 minutes and five minutes later Scott Morgan departed to be replaced by Lee Phillips. Moralee then scored superbly from the edge of the box to grab his hat-trick on 39 minutes as Barry took a 4-0 interval lead.
Oswestry came out in the second half with all guns blazing and quickly pulled a goal back.
It wasn't until the 81st minute that Moralee stretched to a French cross to get his fourth and then made way for Lee Pratt. Mike Flynn made it 6-1 on 85 minutes and Phillips finished off a cross from Flynn to seal the emphatic 7-1 victory.
Barry are at home again on Saturday to Caersws.
