Pupils try their hand at golf

THANKS TO a joint initiative, five pupils from Barry's Ysgol Maes Dyfan have been given the opportunity to try their hand at golf.

Organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council Sports Development Unit and funded by the Golf Foundation, the students were put through their paces at the town's South Wales Driving Range by golf professional Simon Cox.

During the five sessions of a structured coaching scheme, Mark Driscoll, Anthony Snooks, Richard Fish, Michael Powell and Chris Hartery learned the basics of the game.

On their final day, they were presented with a Merit Scheme Booklet in recognition of achieving the first level of the Golf Starter Scheme run in conjunction with the Golf Foundation.

The Vale's Cabinet Member (economic development and leisure), Cllr Mike Harvey said: "This was a great opportunity for some of the pupils from Ysgol Maes Dyfan to have a go at a new sporting activity. Hopefully the experience will inspire them to continue participating in the sport."
