VALE MP John Smith has hit out at 'scare-mongering' concerning the new rail link from Barry to Bridgend, following the government's action on Railtrack.
He claims the rail scheme is now even more assured.
Mr Smith said: "As a result of the changes in the way Railtrack is run, I believe that the Vale rail link is now more likely to proceed, as we have put services to passengers before profits to shareholders.
"The changes introduced by Alan Milburn will improve conditions for the travelling public. Railtrack was a company that was in financial meltdown, decisive action had to be taken to tackle Railtrack's failure to control costs."
"The new Railtrack will be putting operating surpluses directly back into the network under a 'not-for-profit' company.
"These stories about the new Vale Railway line not going ahead, are insubstantial speculation, both the government in Westminster and the Labour led National Assembly for Wales are committed to improving public transport."
