HIGH STREET residents' and traders' long-standing battle with the Vale of Glamorgan Council over road access could end soon.
The local authority have confirmed that its highway, currently closed because of two derelict houses, could soon be free again.
The news was revealed at an update meeting for High Street residents and traders at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, High Street.
It was by attended councillors for the Illtyd Ward, the Vale of Glamorgan Head of Visible Services Rob Little and Operations Manager Colin Blick.
Mr Blick said: "Plans revealed last week were based on a rough time scale. Since hearing the objections of local businesses suffering as a result of the road closure, we have arranged for the scaffolding to be re-designed to allow a through-flow of traffic."
Labour representative John Trew asked for a guarantee that all concerned in that section of High Street were safe.
Mr Blick responded: "As far as I am aware, no-one is in any danger. Our surveyors will take sometime to complete their study and write up the findings. I don't want to give false information, but we will try to speed things up as much as possible."
Assembly Member Jane Hutt who was at the meeting suggested the panel looks at the regeneration of High Street as a whole to prevent this situation happening again.
The road was re-opened on Friday, October 12. But residents say that while this is good news for traders, it has caused more problems. Joanne Burnell said: "People don't know the road is one-way again, so keep coming through in the wrong direction.
"And some motorists are speeding through the gap like it's a race course. We're back to how we were and we need reassurance it will get better."
