Driven (12) ***
TO SAY Renny Harlin is a bad director would be cruel and unfair, but when we have the biggest flop in history, Cuthroat Island, on his CV, it doesn't matter how good a film he makes, critics will always slate him.
Driven starring Sylvester Stallone is his latest offering but is it good enough to please the harshest of critics?
Stallone plays a 'has-been' Formula One driver who is employed to help coach a young rookie driver in whom people have faith but who is unable to produce results.
As the driver's personal life interferes with his life on the track, Stallone must do the best he can to make him a winner
This has been described as Rocky On Wheels, and in some ways it is like Rocky but to compare the two is unfair. The fact that Stallone wrote both scripts means nothing as far as film making goes.
However, it's Stallone's script that makes the film suffer.
It's a film complete with racing scenes and Motorola, Shell and Ford adverts in every single shot.
Unless you are a Formula One fanatic (I'm not) the film isn't very appealing.
