WATERFRONT Barry - one of the UK's largest and most promising urban development schemes - has donated surplus computer equipment to Barry Island Primary School as part of its commitment to the local community.
This follows a £250 donation by Waterfront Barry to the school in May this year to thank them for taking part in the fifth anniversary celebrations of the scheme, which was celebrated with the unveiling of the David Davies statue. The £250 was used by the school to buy library books.
The two computers, a keyboard and a monitor are being used as part of the school's national curriculum initiatives, especially in increasing standards in literacy and numeracy.
One computer is to be used for literacy development and the other computer is being used by Year 3 pupils as part of their maths development.
Janet Heywood, deputy head teacher at Barry Island Primary, said: "The school is delighted with the support by Waterfront Barry.
"The books bought with the £250 plus these two computers have helped us increase and strengthen our key educational resources which benefit all our pupils."
Byron Lewis, project manager for Waterfront Barry, said: "The Waterfront Barry team aim to involve and support the Barry and South Wales community as much as possible.
"In May this year, we celebrated five years since our launch and hope that the next five years will be just as successful."
This year, Waterfront Barry has also supported other community events, giving £5,000 towards the Waterfront Barry Ty Hafan 5K run which meant that all money raised went directly to Ty Hafan to help provide its much needed services.
In June, the scheme also hosted Barry Dock Lifeboat's Centenary Celebrations enjoyed by nearly 40,000 people.
