15-YEAR-OLD Llantwit Major girl bids for the title of "World Youth Hockey Promoter" when she travels to Tasmania this weekend.
Siobhan Rowland, of Regency Close, is one of two winners - the other is Bethan Walsh, of Swansea - of a Welsh Hockey Union competition which invited youngsters to design a youth promotion plan for their future strategy and win a trip to Hobart for an international competition from October 13-21.
During their stay, which coincides with a World Youth Hockey Festival, the girls, along with around 400 other competitors from around the world, will present their entries to a panel of judges in an attempt to lift the coveted title.
Hosting a small reception to mark Siobhan's success, Vale of Glamorgan Council chairman Cllr Maurice Nugent said: "I am delighted youngsters like Siobhan are taking so much interest in their chosen sport and indeed, trying to identify ways in which hockey can progress, especially at junior and youth levels.
"It is encumbent upon all sports organisations to map out future strategies so that Wales, in particular, can gain recognition on the international field."
