Supermarket opens its doors

BARRY'S ambitious Water-front team have spoken of their delight at the successful launch of the town's newest supermarket.

The company behind the docks regeneration project say they are pleased to welcome leading food retail chain, Wm Morrison Supermarkets, to the development.

Byron Lewis, Project Manager at Waterfront Barry told the News: "We are delighted to strengthen our commitment to the local community by attracting a leading employer. We are confident that the store will benefit the community in the Barry area and complement the existing developments here.

"Waterfront Barry is rapidly gaining wide recognition as the up and coming place to live and shop."

Paul O'Hanlon, Store General Manager at Morrisons' added: "This is an exciting development and we are proud to be involved.

"The new store represents a significant investment in the town, offering the very best in retail facilities, a wide range of high quality products and outstanding value for money. "We believe it will give a real boost to town centre trade in general by attracting new shoppers into the town."

The store, which is the company's first in South Wales, was officially opened on Monday Chairman, Sir Kenneth Morrison, with the help Vale of Glamorgan Council Chairman Maurice Nugent,

Local authority Chief executive , John Maitland-Evans, and the Mayor of Barry Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, were also present to welcome Morrisons and celebrate the 350 new jobs boost.

The ribbon cutting ceremony, to which everybody was welcomed, opened Morrisons 113th store, offering customers a new era of shopping in Barry with unrivalled choice of over 20,000 product lines at the most competitive prices.
