A CHARITY football match between the Ty Hafan Dads and Dan Evans FC hailed as 'Elder Classico' raised a total of £2,166 for the Sully-based children's hospice.

A spokesman for the event, which was recently held at Jenner Park, said: “It costs more than £3 million a year for this wonderful and essential facility to keep running, so to help a little towards that has made everyone involved very proud.

"This is definitely going to be an annual event we’ll all look forward to, and hopefully it will get bigger to raise more funds and awareness of this amazing charity. "

He added: "On behalf of both Dan Evans FC and Ty Hafan we would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who made donations and prizes for the raffle, including Lyndons School of Motoring, Dow Corning, Manchester United Supporters Club Glamorgan and Gwent Branch, Cardiff City FC, Cambrian Restaurant, Hedleys Restaurant, Carbon 60 Global, Chopper and Jo at Jacquie's fruit and veg, Ryan at Dinas Powys Stores, Ad and Uz at Premier Waterfront stores, Tony at ASH building services, Tesco Barry, The Copthorne Hotel, The Witchill Public House and The Cwm Talwg Public House."

He added: "A thank you must also be given to the mini football teams of Island Marine and Cadoxton Imps and Dave ’the chef’ and his Barry Celts Junior football team, also Chris Bowsher for officiating the match and Jeff ‘get out of my kitchen’ Griffiths. A special thank you should go to Paul Fisher at Ty Hafan for the hard work he put in and the Ty Hafan Dads group for the massive effort they gave during the match.

"But the biggest thank you should go to the squad of the Dan Evans FC team for their tireless efforts to raise such a great amount, well done lads you should be very proud.”
